| The Albion Fire
Department Off Road Rescue Unit is part of the growing special
operations that the fire department is developing. The fire
department purchased the equipment through fire department funds and
donations, rather than by using tax payer dollars. The idea began
when the Albion Police Department donated a snow mobile to the fire
department. The fire department then purchased a four wheeler and
rescue sled. The sled has been modified so that a custom made wheel
kit can be installed for warmer weather rescues. The sled will hold
a back board and patient while they are transported to a waiting
ambulance, and can be towed by either the four wheeler or the snow
mobile. The fire department modified a smaller sled to hold a
generator, lights and fire extinguisher. This also can be used in
the warmer months because of a wheel kit that was built. The
department then invested in a small trailer, 100 gallon water tank
and small gas powered pump. These were combined to create a self
contained off road grass / brush fire rig that can be towed into
place by the four wheeler. All of the equipment is carried in a
trailer that was donated and painted by local craftsman at no cost
to the fire department. |
